College Student Defense Lawyer in Oregon

Accused at College? Talk to a Lawyer Before You Talk to Anyone Else

College students accused of misconduct often face two cases at once: a Title IX or student conduct investigation at their school, and a criminal investigation by local police. The two follow different rules, and a statement given in one can be used in the other. Jason Thompson defends accused students in both. He does not represent schools or complaining students.

If you have been contacted by your school or by police, do not give a statement yet. Call 503.763.3537 or email info@thompsonlawllc.com first. Parents are welcome to make that first call.

Student Defense by School

Mr. Thompson represents students at colleges across Oregon, not only the schools listed above. See the full list on our Title IX defense page.

What Should I Do If I Get a Letter From a Title IX Coordinator?

Call Thompson Law for a consultation as soon as possible, before you respond to the letter or agree to an interview. Every college that receives federal funding must have a Title IX coordinator. Some coordinators are school employees; other schools work with outside coordinators who handle Title IX cases for several campuses. Either way, a letter from the coordinator usually means an investigation has started.

How Mr. Thompson Helps Accused Students

Federal law lets a student bring an advisor of their choice through the school's Title IX process. In that role the school treats Mr. Thompson as the student's support person rather than as an attorney, but he is closely involved from the first investigation interview through the conduct hearing. When police are also involved, he handles the criminal case too.
